Evangelical Christian Glen Campell, drinking for Jesus!

Drink a lot every Sunday. I mean that is what the Catholics teach you every communion. Blood of Christ tastes nice...about 12.9% alcohol right? Well Glen Campbell was trying to get it right by drinking and popping his "prescribed" anxiety meds (I do know a thing or two about the drink/pill mixing ratio) and driving all fucked up singing some old Sabbath tunes which he will never admit to. Silly Glen, drinking's for Catholics not for Protestants!

I give you the "Rinestone Cowboy". Drunk, full of his meds and assaulting an officer of the law. Oh I also forgot that he is a faithfull, evangelical Christian, drunk.

Glen, 67, was found at his home after leaving the scene of an accident of which he was involved in. He was apprehended by police and brought into the Biltmore, Arizona police station. He blew a .18 on the breathalizer. Go Glen! Slammed with charges of extreme drunken driving and hit and run, you would think Glen would get his bail payed, which was $2,000, and go home and sober up. Nope. As family members and friends waited for his release, Glen, in a Christ-filled fit of rage, kneed an officer in the thigh (missing his intended target, the officers balls). Sending him back to the cell and awaiting a midnight trial by fire for assaulting an officer. Another plus for Jesus...oh..ah..Glen.

Even though I think the attack on Christianity is unwarranted. I don't see the connection. Country music has a long and time-honored tradition of mixin' a little sweet booze with their sweet religion. Makes ya sing better or sumpthin'...

Christians come off two-faced (3.00 / 1) (#4)

Christians come off two-faced. I grew up around it, in it, and through it all my life untill I learned better values. I didn't want to step on Christian's toes with this, but I did at the same time. I think, despite Glen being a Country man and all, Christians should live up to what they preach. I know no one is perfect. He just makes it worse for all the other Christians(but provides me with better wood for the fire). This article is just a more "Christian bashing" version than of the news.

This reply is for the sole purpose of replying....

I just didn't see anything in the story-link that indicated Campbell's Christianity, hence the "unwarranted" part of my previous comment.

Maybe I missed something...?

By the way, I am one of those two-faced Christians - or was anyway.

There's no doubt that Johnny Cash, for example, was a devout Christian to the day of his death. He was also perpetually haunted, occasionally self-destructive, and chemically abusive. He veered between sanctity and profanity the way a pendulum swings in a grandfather clock. Therefore, Cash never passed judgement on his fellow humans, because of the whole "he who is without sin" remark. He knew the demons his drug use had brought up and fought against it, even during the last part of his life.

So I don't think the "ha ha, see what the born again Christian did" angle is entirely appropriate here. I don't think Campbell made a really big point out of his faith, and it seems to me, reading from the reports, that he was going through something tough. I don't get a sense of hypocracy from the story; I get a sense of tragedy.

Nevertheless I voted for the story.

I DO tend to place my hatred for Christians in the way. Like I said before to King Dinosaur, NO ONE is perfect. So I do cause myself a bit of conflict on this one. I ride on Glen because, for my own pride's sake, I can. I don't HATE the man, just his "Faith". Everyone these days are turning his or her media faces to "GOD". This could go on as a discussion on faith and values.

I think that this "topic" is a good story line for me next time. Oh yes, there will be a next time.....

It's not as if what we hear about Christians from the mainstream media these days paints them in a positive light. We only hear about the fanatics/lunatics like Judge Moore in Alabama, or (insert your favorite televangelist here). And plenty of us have fucked-up upbringings that were the result of extremely misguided moralism done in the name of Christianity, when I'm sure Christ would be appalled at.

But there's a good portion of Christianity that isn't misguided, deluded or perched on a moral high horse. They use Christianity as their own personal philosophy, the same way people are free to use Buddhism, Islam, atheism, Satanism, existentialism, or what-have-you-ism as their philosophies. These types of Christians don't inflict fundamentalism on others; those who have pervert everything Christ was trying to do, if you believe he walked the earth.

If Christ were around today he'd flip the bird to the religious right, and he'd probably have a couple "Live at San Quentin" albums under his belt.

Not to preach (ha ha), but it's an interesting line of discussion for me.

That's why he got nailed. It wasn't the Romans, it was a Jewish faction who were actually breaking their own laws.
