The Sphere is a 1.5 years old today, and is still going strong. The stories are still great, comments are great, and new users are great. Wouldn't this be a fun time to get your very own Satanosphere.com T-shirt?
We're tossing around ideas for what kinds of merchandice we should pawn off on you poor souls. T-shirts, of course, but what else?

We're going to be doing some upgrades on the Satanosphere in the next several days. Here are a few of the changes. Your job is to provide feedback as to how you feel about them. Don't worry, for the most part, they're very positive and user friendly. Also, any ideas you've had will be discussed and analyzed.

They Can't Kill Satanosphere || Where We Went

Let me start by saying thank you all for the phone calls and emails of concern. I know what must've been going through your mind, "Where's the Satanosphere!?" Well, that's what we were thinking, too. But here we are, Back in Black, alive and kicing. The story, put simply, is that our server was under a DoS Attack. In layman's terms, some "hacker"-type kids thought it would be fun to bring down a website that we share our server with. Unfortunately, that brings down all the sites on said server, including this one. But, after a few days of work by the wonderful Vlad and the staff at our new hosting provider we're back and ready to go.
[editor's note, by Quacky] At Vlad's request I've removed the link to our new hosting provider... y'all understand, I'm sure.

Help Us Write Satanosphere Haiku

Sometime in the next week or so, we will start advertising the Sphere over on one of our sisters sites, Kuro5hin. For those who aren't hip to it, Kuro5hin (or K5, as it's called) is kind of like a Satanosphere for the hardcore Tech Nerd or Internet Freedom Evangelist type. A fine site, it's also the flagship site for the Scoop platform, which is the software that Satanosphere runs on. The thing is, K5 is having a contest for ads. The best ad in classic Haiku format wins addtional adspace for free. We want to win this contest. And that's where you come in, my creativly evil little Spherelings. The deadline is Thursday the 9th, noon Pacific time. Update [2002-5-12 13:3:4 by matt]: None of you were a winner. I mean, you're all winners, but since we couldn't even read the entries when ours was due, the Captain came up with our own, reflecting our bitterness towards those who brought us down: DoS k1dd13z Winter of our Discontent We Will be Back Soon We're doing a weekly Haiku! Check out the columns box on the left of the Front Page!

We're Moving Yet Again

Yup, yet again, for the fifth time, Satanosphere is moving to yet another server. Hopefully, this will make us nice and fast. (Ah, that unobtainable dream... ;-) ). Anyway, the new server can be found over here, so feel free to check it out. We should be done with the move sometime today, but it could take a while for the DNS stuff to catch up. In the meantime, carry on.
Update [2002-4-24 16:29:11 by hillct]: If you are reading this, you are on the new server. The DNS will be updates shortly and you will see the normal URL http://www.satanosphere.com thereafter, but you are in fact on the new box now. Let us know if you see any improvements or problems relating to this migration. - Enjoy...Update [2002-4-25 15:52:29 by matt]: The move is done, and you'll probably notice how much faster the Sphere is. Props go out to Vlad & hillct for the hard work and help in the move. Camaro!

If you've been a Satanosphere user for awhile, then you are by now more than likely familiar with the oh-so-bizarre theory of the Time Cube, that ever-lasting cube of mystery. And you'll also recognize that Gene Ray, founder of the Time Cube movement, has been trying to get his theory debated in "public education and academic palaces" for quite awhile. And you know what? He did it at MIT.

We all know about Inglis, Florida, the small town that has banned Satan from city limits. Good news, folks. The friendly Mayor, Carolyn Risher, has agreed to an interview with Satanosphere. And, as usual, you get to ask the questions.
Update [2002-4-16 18:19:51 by Captain Tenille]: People! We did the interview ages ago! You can stop asking questions now.

Sigh, More Downtime

For some reason the afternoon of 2/26, the server decided to bork itself, and it took a couple of hours to be able to get through and get it fixed. Mercifully, it's done now, so, Gawd willing, we won't have any more problems. Sorry about the downtime.
