I'm fairly certain Walter Eugene O'Reilly never died in the M*A*S*H series., otherwise he would never have had the chance to become a detective in St Louis, a la W*A*L*T*E*R.

In the novels, J. Robespierre O'Reilly eventually retires as an irish stew tycoon.

I just read the Wikipedia page inside and out, and you're right, he apparently didn't die. Which is bizarre, because I could swear the episode ended with his helicopter crashing just as he was leaving. Must've been a dream.

Oddly, I do things other places.

Keep in mind, Radar died in the helicopter crash, because the guy (can't remember his name) totally hated the show, and didn't want any part of the reunion shit, and whatnot. Hell, that Iowa town that Radar was "from"? They offered him the key to the city, and he (in so many words) told them to play a nice, rousing game of "Hide And Go Fuck Yourself".

With a few exceptions, he hated his co-stars and the whole point of the show.
